Week 6: Country Week: Foxtrot and Group Dance

For Country Week, Emmitt & Cheryl danced a Foxtrot to "Islands in the Stream" by Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers. Each star also had to perform a 20-second solo and Emmitt's was truly entertaining!

In addition to the solo dances, all of the couples also performed one large group country dance. The judges awarded 2 bonus points to the couple with the best solo (the points went to Kirstie & Maks for having the most entertaining and enjoyable solo).

Emmitt & Cheryl's score for this week:

Dancing's Cheryl Burke: We're Peaking at the Right Time

Cheryl talks to TVGuide.com about strategy, Country Week, and being the "most wanted" pro.

RE: Country Week:

What do you have planned for the foxtrot?
Burke: Well, it's Country Week, which I prefer over Rock Week any day. Rock Week is annoying. [Laughs] I love rock music, but to do ballroom dancing to rock music? It doesn't make sense. It's a lot easier to ballroom dance to country. The foxtrot will be very cute. It's a soft dance, and Emmitt hasn't done a ballroom dance since the quickstep, so I'm just excited for everyone to see a different side of him. We did the bolero, but that was more of a sexy dance. This is will be more elegant. And we'll have the group dance too, which will be country as well, obviously.

Viva Glam Cover Update

Viva Glam tweeted that they're launching Cheryl's November cover (the one she shot before the season started) on October 29th. Be sure to pick it up!

I just had to share this photo...what a stunner!

MSN TV Q&A w/ Cheryl

MSN TV talks with Cheryl about learning two dances in one week, Carrie Ann falling out of her chair and who is the couple to beat.

My personal favorite:

MSN TV: Emmitt has said your strategy in practice when things get too tense is to laugh. How does he get you to laugh, and do you have any funny stories from behind the scenes you can share with the fans?

CHERYL: Emmitt is such a lighthearted guy and I think sometimes I take myself too seriously and that’s how I always have been, I think. Emmitt just makes fun of himself or he’ll make fun of me. He’ll just make fun of how serious I am, or I’ll teach him a step and he’ll put in his two cents, and he know that irritates me. So he’s like a big brother. He likes to irritate me. Annoy me. And then we finally just laugh it off. He knows the way it works. He can almost complete my sentences, basically. We’ve known each other for six, seven years now.

MSN TV: This season the competition has been so elevated with the all-stars dancing. What would you say is the most challenging part of competing this season?

CHERYL: I think for me, as a professional dancer, it’s hard to come out with stuff that you’ve never seen before. I’ve been on this show for 14 seasons and I’ve choreographed -- I have no idea how many dances I’ve done. It’s really difficult to come out there and make showstoppers every week, but I have to. For me, I have to make sure we’re memorable no matter what. Whether it’s scoring high or, you know, at least letting people at home make sure they know we're here in the competition. We want to do well.

We love all of your dances, Cheryl! Rest assured that Team Emmitt is here voting for you all the way :)

EMMITT SMITH: I'M OFF MY 'DWTS' GAME

I would never have guessed by Monday's routine that Emmitt felt he was off his game!

Emmitt and Cheryl talk to the Insider about rehearsing in a different rehearsal space, pro rehearsals, and the "Mini Jimmy Johnson" nickname resurfaces :)

Emmit and Cheryl talk to On the Red Carpet after taping Monday night's show. They talk about Cheryl's teaching style (he calls her "Mini Johnson" after former Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson), Country Week (Emmitt likes the song, but Cheryl was unfamiliar with it) and Melissa's injury.

Week 5: Guilty Pleasures Week

This week was split into two nights (due to the Presidential Debate). On Monday night, Emmitt and Cheryl danced their individual "Guilty Pleasure" - a Samba to "Copacabana." They received their first 10 and their highest score of the season - 29!

Tuesday night Emmitt and Cheryl danced as part of Team Gangnam Style and received an additional 27 points to add to his total for the week. Because there is no elimination this week, the scores and viewer votes will rollover to next week.

Week 5: Voting Info

Voting Oct 22&23

According to Melissa Rycroft's tweet, we can vote both nights for Emmitt and Cheryl. I'm assuming she means by phone (so double the amount of phone votes? Or can we only vote 4 times Monday and 4 times Tuesday? We'll have to wait and see). The press release said that online voting will proceed as normal - open Monday at 8 pm ET and close Tuesday morning at 11am ET. This could be a typo. The Powers That Be could open up online voting to make it a little more fair for the couples dancing on Tuesday night (since they are performing for a much smaller audience). We'll just have to wait until tomorrow night to find out for sure.

Speaking of performing...

Melissa's tweet also clues us in to the dance order (a little bit). Because she's dancing on Tuesday, we know that Emmitt and Cheryl will be dancing their Samba to "Copacabana" on Monday night, and Team Gangnam Style will be performing their Freestyle on Tuesday night.

Cheryl Attends 26th Anniversary Carousel of Hope Ball

On October 20th, Cheryl, among other DWTS faves, attended the 26th Anniversary Carousel of Hope Ball, a charity event that raises money to help find a cure for diabetes.

Guilty Pleasures Week

I am so happy that The Powers That Be brought back Guilty Pleasures week!

The first time this theme was done on the show was Season 14. Kirstie and Maks danced to "Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears, Chris Jericho and Cheryl danced to "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey, Romeo and Chelsie Waltzed to "My Heart Will Go On" and Ralph Macchio and Karina did a Paso to "Gonna Make You Sweat." Does that ring any bells?

Emmitt announced Tuesday night that he and Cheryl would be dancing to "Copacabana" by Barry Manilow, and I am absolutely dying to see this.

In Season 2, Cheryl danced to this song with Louis when Barry Manilow performed the song during one of the results shows (It was thisclose to making it on my list of Best Pro Dances of All Time).

For your viewing pleasure:

Performance and voting-wise, this is going to be a strange week.

There will be a one-hour performance show Monday and a one-hour performance show Tuesday, and no elimination.

From the ABC Press Release:

During night one, MONDAY, OCTOBER 22 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET), four couples will dance to their selected 'guilty pleasure' song while the other four couples will perform their Freestyle Team Dance in the ballroom. On night two, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 23 (8:00-9:01 p.m., ET), the four couples who performed their Team Dance on Monday night will dance their individual dances to their selected 'guilty pleasure' song, and the other four couples will take their turn on the dance floor with their Freestyle Team Dance. Judges' scores and viewer votes from Monday and Tuesday night will be added to the following week's scores and votes.

About Voting:

Viewers may cast their votes for their favorite teams via phone on Monday & Tuesday night during and up to 60 minutes after the "Dancing with the Stars" performance shows this week. AT&T customers may also vote by texting the word "VOTE" and entering the number that corresponds to the team they want to support (message and data rates may apply). Online voting at www.ABC.com is open from the start of each episode on the East Coast and closes at 8:00 a.m., ET om Tuesday mornings. Additionally, fans can now vote on Facebook www.facebook.com/dancingwiththestars.

So if I'm reading the voting information correctly, we can vote by phone both nights, but online voting is only going to be open Monday night to Tuesday morning (like normal). Also, this week's votes will carryover to next week.

If anything changes, I will update!

Cheryl Performs to the Music of Tito Puente, Jr.

Cheryl had been teasing us on Twitter for a while about a very special performance that she was working on for the show.

Then, we found out she was dancing to the music of Tito Puente, Jr. with some of her oldest friends, so this was really a very special performance for her.

And finally, right before the show, Cheryl dedicated her performance to her dance coach. So sweet :)

Here is a video of her special performance, provided by an awesome member of #TeamEmmitt @DoloresVelasco1 (Thank you so much, Dolores!!!)

Emmitt Visits Good Day LA

Emmitt stopped by Good Day LA on Monday. If you missed it (like I did, unfortunately), or if you just want to see it again, you're in luck :)

This is a really good interview preshow Monday, where Emmitt talks about training with Cheryl (and even likens her to Jimmy Johnson), learning from other competitors, and having fun during the competition.
